Skip to Main Content Home View Your Submissions The Florida Review The Florida Review welcomes submissions. Please submit no more than one piece of fiction, nonfiction, graphic narrative, review, or digital story at a time. Poets and visual artists may submit up to (but no more than) five poems or artworks as a single submission. Please look carefully at all of our submissions categories, as they are numerous. Make sure to choose the one you intend--whether it be for one of our contests, for the print Florida Review, or for Aquifer: The Florida Review Online. Submit your manuscript and cover letter using the appropriate link. (You will also find genre-specific guidelines in each link.) We strive to respond in 3 to 6 months, though sometimes it takes us 8 months. Please note that your work will be considered in the genre to which it's submitted. Submissions in our general categories will NOT be considered as contest submissions, even if the contest is referenced in your cover letter. We are happy to announce that, starting in 2017, we will be awarding modest annual prizes to one non-contest-winner "staff pick" author in each of the following categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, graphic narrative, and digital story. These will be modest awards of $50.00 each, but we hope they will show our good faith toward all those who submit to The Florida Review and Aquifer. We are a struggling nonprofit organization, but we know how hard our writers work, and we want you to have the possibility of payment. For more information about submissions, please see our website . We no longer accept general submissions via USPS mail. (We will, however, continue to accept visual art, chapbook, and contest submissions via USPS mail, as well as from those without internet access, such as prisoners.) You may add a subscription at the time of your submission at a special submitter discount price. If you wish to subscribe to The Florida Review without submitting, please visit us here . 2020 Editors' Award in Fiction Ends on $25.00 $25.00 More SUBMIT to 2020 Editors' Award in Fiction Open through April 15, 2020. Please note that we receive numerous submissions and the contest may not be judged until spring or summer 2020. Submission fee includes a one-year subscription to The Florida Review valued at $20. Winner receives publication and $1,000 prize. All entries considered for publication. Winners will be announced in early fall on The Florida Review Website and Social Media and will be published the following spring. Entry fee includes one-year subscription that begins with the issue in which the winning works will appear. Please limit each submission to 6000 words. One story per entry, but multiple individual entries by a writer in any category or combination of categories are considered. Simultaneous submissions allowed if work is withdrawn immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. This is a blind read contest--please have title only on the manuscript (no author name or other identifying information). 2020 Editors' Award in Creative Nonfiction Ends on $25.00 $25.00 More SUBMIT to 2020 Editors' Award in Creative Nonfiction Open through April 15, 2020. Visual Art Porfolios (Aquifer: The Florida Review Online) $2.00 $2.00 More SUBMIT to Visual Art Porfolios (Aquifer: The Florida Review Online) Thank you for sending your work to Aquifer . Please submit original artwork here. We are now accepting submissions of 1 to 10 pieces and will publish between 1 and 5 works by an artist at one time. Here are some examples of the types of work we publish (scroll down for Visual Art) https://floridareview.cah.ucf.edu/ . Please see our separate category for submissions for our print magazine cover. Artwork in any media will be considered, but please note for video work that we also have a separate submission category for Digital Stories and will be introducing Short Film soon. Visual Art/Cover Art (print Florida Review) $3.00 $3.00 More SUBMIT to Visual Art/Cover Art (print Florida Review) We consider black and white art for interior pages and color (or black and white) art for covers. Artists may submit up to four works for consideration. We ask your understanding that we often hold onto visual art submissions for quite some time. Because we only print two issues and one chapbook a year in print--and because the moods and themes of these are often determined by the content--we like to keep even older submissions on hand in case there's a match. We don't mean to keep anyone hanging, and we understand that you will be submitting your work elsewhere as well. If you don't want us to continue to hold onto your submission, please withdraw it. And please know that eventually you will hear from us. Please note that you will be given the opportunity to "add on" a subscription to this submission. You will receive a discounted submitter rate of $18.00 for a 1-year subscription). Or you might want to consider this a discount to our subscribers on submissions, meaning that our submission fee drops to $1.00 for subscribers. It's a damn good deal either way! Fiction (Aquifer: The Florida Review Online) $2.00 $2.00 More SUBMIT to Fiction (Aquifer: The Florida Review Online) Aquifer is our new online literary supplement to The Florida Review print edition. As with the print magazine, we consider literary fiction that takes many different approaches, from experimental to minimalist to psychologically-nuanced realism. We have published flash fiction, short-shorts, and very long, sustained narratives. There's no set page limit, but a novella or story over 21 pages would need to be exceptionally...
